Fair Supply is a signatory to a joint letter to the Attorney-General supporting the strengthening of Australia’s modern slavery laws, alongside over 100 investors, businesses, unions, civil society organisations, academics and survivor advocates.
The letter argues that the next phase of reform should focus on embedding risk-based due diligence as a consistent and practical standard, and in alignment with key international standards such as the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct.
It follows the independent review of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) by Professor John McMillan AO, as well as a position paper by Australian's Federal Anti-Slavery Commission, both of which found the Act had not yet caused meaningful change for people affected by modern slavery.
